If you are wondering what you need and how to take of Pomston. These are the things that you need to know if you want to keep your little guy in good health, safe, and happy. You will need to know their grooming needs, bathing and feeding routine, health and training tips. So, here we will discuss what a Pomston needs:
Training
Well, Boston Terrier Pomeranian Mix is a very high-energy dog who can also be very stubborn and tends to bark at strangers, if it inherits it’s most of the behavioral traits from the parent’s pomeranian.
However, Pomston is a small dog with small stature, so you won’t need to train/exercise them t\for too long or aggressively. 30 minutes of morning/evening walk would be enough for your buddy’s cute little paws.
Since Pomston is a hybrid with the Pomeranian’s energy, It would be ideal to provide them some extra space that will make them happy where they can run, hide and play. If you can’t provide the extra space then you can plan for a car ride with your pooch to a doggy park or beach on weekends.
Pomston is easy to train, so you can easily make them follow your command after a few training sessions, but you will need to start early. Early socialization would be recommended for better results. Furthermore, you will also need to praise them by giving some high-value treats whenever they do well.
Apart from that, there is one thing about a Pomston that you need to be cautious of: If they inherit most of its physical traits from the parent’ Pomeranian, leaving them alone on their own can make them feel depressed. So, always make sure that you are not leaving them on their own for more than 6 hours.
Interestingly there is a thing that every dog owner wants and that is to keep their little guy’s attention span higher during the training session. If you also want to keep your Boston Terrier Pomeranian mix attention span time higher and wondering how then it is recommended to break the training session into shorter daily sessions.
You should also focus on taking them to park or doggy daycare, where your Pomston will learn how to socialize with other people accordingly.
Request: Please don’t ever tie your little guy/girl outside as it is not fair to him/her. I have seen many peoples doing that, who leave their buddy tied outside and I think it’s a cruel thing to do.
Health
Every particular designer dog or hybrid can have some health issues. Every one of them can develop some serious health problems. When we talk about Pomston health condition, you may expect to see some Genetics health issues that they can inherit from its parent.
However, after interviewing 7 Pomston owners I haven’t seen or heard any major or serious health issues that they can develop in time. But one of them did mention cataracts and also stated that it was easy to cure.
But still, I would recommend you to be on the safe side. Plus, according to my hours and hours of research – I got to know about some serious health concerns that you may expect to face with your Pomston like allergies, cataracts, corneal ulcers, and many more. You may want to eliminate those problems in the early stages
From my point of view, it is best to be on the safe side so I will highly recommend you to visit the Vet frequently with your Pomston for an occasional health checkup, especially when there pup. The tests could include MRI, allergy tests, physical examinations, x-ray, and knee tests.
It is very crucial to have occasional testing done on their skin, hips, and elbows. Furthermore, it would also be good if you feed them with essential supplements with meals as it will help to keep your pup healthy.
Apart from that if you want a healthy Pomston and want to avoid such health risks you must look for a genuine and reputable breeder who also offers a health guarantee or insurance. Let me tell you, there are very few reputable breeders who offer such insurances.
Adopting a Pomston from a reputable breeder will give you many benefits such as a legit & genuine breeder will always be true and honest with you when you will be closing your deal and adopting a Boston Terrier Pomeranian mix. Plus, they will definitely open up about the health concerns that your Pomston can develop
Make sure that they do offer Health Insurance or a guarantee on hybrid puppies like Pomston. If you get caught with a breeder who won’t offer any Health Insurance or guarantee on a hybrid puppy, it will be highly recommended to not trust these kinds of breeders as they tend to lie most of it and you will end up losing your precious time and money.
From my experience, I have found that most of them just want to sell those puppies and make quick money they always seem to lie about their hybrid dogs.
I would suggest you not trust them, they don’t it worth your time trust, and money. Also, make sure that the puppy you are adopting at that moment has been cleared of the particular condition with all health clearance needed
Grooming Needs
Each Pomstons can inherit its own physical as well as behavioral traits from their parents – Boston Terrier and Pomeranian. Most of the time it has been seen that a Pomston inherits most from the Pomeranian’s side rather than the Boston Terrier’s side.
If Boston Terrier Pomeranian inherits most of its physical traits from the Pomeranian genetics like its coat. Then you will need to comb their coat occasionally if you want to keep their coat from getting matted, You can use either a slicker brush or a pin brush to brush their coat.
If you are a first-time dog owner and you don’t have any brush then I would highly suggest you invest in a pin / slicker brush. If want to -check out the recent purchase that I made from Amazon.
If you are looking for the pin brush then you can easily find it on Amazon or PetSmart or at Petco or any Pet store. I haven’t bought any recent `because I already had one and I have been using it for the last 2 years.
Apart from that if your Pomston inherits the Boston Terrier silky coat then still you will want to get their coat comb occasionally. Remember to brush their silky coat down to the skin,
They don’t shed much but they do develop a pretty thick coat, if you want to lessen your efforts then you can just go to the grooming Centre or Store and get your Pomston’s coat clipped but still, it’s gonna cost you few extra dollars as you are going to visit the groomer every month to keep their coat short.
Moving forward if you talk about the bath timings you will also need to bathe them occasionally once a month or every 6 weeks. I would suggest you bathe them once a month if you want you should also use pet shampoo.

Apart from that if you want your dog to be groomed perfectly, you will also need to trim their nails and wipe their eyes occasionally.
Wiping their eyes will prevent staining of the fur on its face. Adding to that it’s a designer dog/hybrid so you will also want to clean their ears as it will prevent any further infection.
If we talk about their shedding time, a Pomston may shade occasionally or seasonally like Pomeranian but according to the reports and the interviews, they don’t shed much.
Feeding
Usually, in most cases, a designer dog diet routine differs from dog to dog. So it would be ideal to say that every Pomston needs to have its own proper diet routine on each dog basis.
We shouldn’t forget that a Pomston is a hybrid – each of them is going to be different from each others. So it means that they will certainly require different dietary routines.
Many people seem to get confused about what to feed their dog but here is the thing that you need to know – hybrid dietary routines usually slightly differ from normal pure breed dogs
Generally, a raw diet is always a good diet but here is the thing that you always need to know about their dietary requirements, when you pet a hybrid like a Pomston it would be safe if you go for Holistic dog foods.
You will also want to ensure that the food you are going to feed them contains lamb, Salmon, Turkey, beef and chicken meat as the primary ingredients.
These ingredients will fulfill your little buddY essential calorie and protein needs and will make them / keep them healthy

When you go with the commercial dog foods you should always check the ingredients used in preparing the food. It should only contain high-quality ingredients. Remember, a Boston Terrier Pomeranian mix can also be vulnerable to dental problems and allergies
Foods that are made of lots of grains can cause an allergic reaction and low-quality dog food can result in a dental problem. So to be in the safe zone or safe side, it would be ideal / best if you just feed them with high-quality food that only contains high-quality ingredients.
Apart from feeding them commercial dog food, you can also feed them with fruits and vegetables occasionally. Remember fruits and vegetables are only acceptable if you feed them occasionally. You can also feed them with a cup of dry food every day.
Remember not to feed them too much because overfeeding can also cause unwanted weight gain. According to recent surveys, most of the pet dogs of the United States are overweighted. Overfeeding is never a good idea as it will only increase the chances of health concerns.
You may also want to include some healthy supplements like glucosamine and fish oils, especially when they are young as this will eliminate any potential hip and elbow dysplasia. But make sure to consult with the doctors before feeding them with any supplements.
Open most people seems to ignore the power of supplements but I would highly suggest you take the power of supplements seriously as it will help you to keep your pet healthy
