Fortunately, shiranian is not a breed that has a lot of health issues. Just like other hybrids/mix, they may inherit some typical health problems form their parents. After taking a look over their purebred parents, here is what we found-

They may inherit some serious health problems from their parents at early stages when they are a pup, which could include hypothyroidism and some minimal allergies from its parent’s Shih Tzu, – cataracts and hypoglycemia from the Pomeranian.

However, most of the reports and researches haven’t shown anything susceptible to these health issues.

But to be on the safe side, it will be highly recommended to visit the Vet once a month for a health check-up when they are a pup.

From the last few years, adopting a designer dog like Shih Tzu Pomeranian Mix has become quite a trend. Nowadays, breeding such a designer or Hybrid dog is common.

However, breeding such a hybrid is not a natural thing to do, but still, United States’ breeders are breeding such designer dogs due to increasing demand.

No doubts that the demand for hybrids like Shih Tzu Pomeranian Mix is increasing day-by-day.

Due to increasing demand and popularity in the last few years, breeding mix like this one is very common nowadays. Shiranian is popular due to its pleasing personality and small stature.

Do You Know?

Demand for designer pets creates disturbing health issues in animals. Despite warnings from vets, people are loving mutts more and more. Sadly, such demand is also fueling puppy mills 🙁

Apart from their playful nature, they also inherit some unique physical as well as behavioral traits from their parents.

Talking about Shih Tzu Pomeranian Mix history, there is nothing much history available to read/ to find on them but still, we managed to find some data of both parents’ Shih Tzus and Pomeranian.

Both Pomeranian and Shih Tzus got a brief history. Here, we can have a quick look at their history to save some Precious time.

As I previously stated, a shiranian could be either the first-generation dog or a second-generation dog. Let’s take a quick look at the Shih Tzu Pomeranian mix’s parents.

Origin of Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu is one of the most ancient breeds that is believed to have been developed many centuries ago in China.

According to the sources and researches ( Wikipedia ), we found that Shih Tzu was created by cross-breeding the Pekingese and Lhasa Apso.

Shih Tzus weren’t exposed to the outside world until the 1930s, they were first introduced in Europe and in 1969, this breed managed to find its place in AKC’S Toy Group.

Till now, Shih Tzus are one of the most favorite lapdogs of dog lovers. Even my family used to own and love Shih Tzus in the 1970s. My grandmother used to love them. She used to care for them as her child.

Origin of Pomeranian

Do you Know – once, pomeranian used to be very big in size compared to its present size. Centuries ago, people used to keep them and pets to herd animals and pull shed. Believe it or not, it’s completely true ( Check on Wikipedia )

So, don’t fool yourself by their lovable character and fluffiness. These guys are somehow related to wolves.

Pomeranian received its name from somewhere, around Baltic Shore Region.

Do you know? – Two Pomeranians were amongst the three dogs who managed to survive the heartbreaking sinking ship – Titanic. One was on Lifeboat number 6, the other one was on Lifeboat number 7.

Let me tell you an interesting fact – Queen Victoria was the one who first fell in love with the Pomeranians in Italy and she was the first to brought and import 4 Pomeranians to England from Italy.

During the 16th century, Pomeranians were known as history’s greatest creative mind dogs. However, today we know them for their lovable and adorable characters. A small package with lots of surprises and features.

There are pretty many things that you need to know if you want to keep your buddy safe, healthy and happy. You will need to know their grooming needs, bathing and feeding routine, health and training tips. So, here we will discuss what a shiranian needs:

Training

Well, Shih Tzu Pomeranian Mix is a very high energy dog who can also be aggressive barker if it inherits it’s most of the behavioral traits from the parent’s pomeranian.

However, shiranian is a small dog, so you won’t need to train/exercise them aggressively. 20 minutes of morning/evening walk is enough for their cute little paws.

Since it’s a hybrid with the Pomeranian’s energy, some extra space will make them happy where they can run and play. A house with extra space or yard will do the magic.

You can train them to follow your commands too, but you will need to start early. Plus, you will also need to praise them and give some high-value treats with devotion when they do well.

Apart from that, there is one thing that you need to be cautious of: If they inherit most of its physical traits from the Shih Tzu like it’s ” brachycephalic nose”, then don’t play too hard with them.

Usually, a dog with short muzzles takes short breathes, their breathing takes a little more work.

One thing that every owner wants is to keep their pooch attention span higher. If you also want to keep your Shih Tzu attention span time higher, it is recommended to break the training session into shorter daily sessions.

You should focus on taking them to park or doggy daycare, where they will learn how to socialize with peoples accordingly.

Note: Please don’t ever tie your buddy outside as it is not fair to him. I have seen many peoples who leave their buddy tied outside and I think it’s an inhumane thing to do.

Health

Every hybrid/designer dog can have the potential to develop some health issues. If we talk about Shih Tzu Pomeranian Mix’s health condition, you expect to see some genetic health issues.

However, most of the reports and researches haven’t shown anything susceptible to these health issues.

Still, it’s good to be on the safe side, according to my 36-hour research – I noticed some health issue that you may face with your shiranian, like cataracts, allergies and many more.

But I found that there is a high risk of breathing problems due to their brachycephalic nose & short muzzles.

It will be highly recommended to visit the Vet once a month for a health check-up when they are a pup. It is very crucial to have occasional testing done on their elbows, hips, and skin.

Apart from that, If you want to avoid such things or lower the chances of getting an unhealthy hybrid, You must look for a reputable breeder who offers health insurance or a guarantee.

There are many benefits of adopting a Pomeranian Shih Tzu Mix from a reputable like they will be true and honest with you when you will be closing your deal, they will definitely open up about the health issues that can occur in your shiranian.

You must ensure that they offer health guarantee or insurance on mix puppies like these ones.

Many people get caught with a breeder who doesn’t offer any health guarantee or insurance on puppies. I’ve found that most of them tend to lie about their designer dogs/

I would recommend you to not trust these kinds of breeders, they don’t worth your trust, time and money. Always make sure that the shiranian that you are adopting has been cleared in a particular condition with all health clearances needed.

Grooming Needs

Every shiranian can inherit its own physical as well as behavioral train from their parents. It also depends on whether your hybrid is a first-generation dog or second-generation dog.

If a shiranian inherits the pomeranian thick coat, then you will need to comb their coat daily if you want to keep their coat from getting tangled/matted. You will need to brush their coat with both slicker and pin brush.

If you don’t have one then you will need to invest in slicker and pin brush. I recently made a purchase of slicker brush, it’s not the best one but it works fine with my pooch. The others were pretty expensive but this one is worth it.

If you are looking for a pin brush, then you can easily find one on Amazon, I haven’t bought any because I already had one. I couldn’t find the same pin brush on amazon as I bought that from the store but this one looks the same as mine.

If your shiranian inherits the Shih Tzu’s silky and long coat then you will need to brush their coat down to the skin daily.

You can also lessen your efforts by clipping its coat short but it will also cost you extra bucks as you will need to visit the groomers every month.

Let’s move forward, You will also need to bath them at least once a month. You can also bath them once in every six weeks but I would recommend you to go for once a month.

You will also need to wipe their eyes daily, daily wiping will prevent tear staining of the fur on their face. Plus, it’s a hybrid so you will also need to clean those ears and trim their nails to prevent any further infection.

Talking about their shedding time, a shiranian may shed seasonally like the poms or infrequently like the Shih Tzu. It totally depends on the mix and what they inherit from both parents.

Feeding

Usually, in most cases, a hybrid diet routine differs from dog to dog. It is right to say that every shiranian should have their own proper diet routing on each dog basis.

Keep in mind, Shiranian is hybrids, so each one of them will inherit different traits – by that I mean each one is going to be different and will certainly require different dietary routines.

Commonly, a raw diet is always considered as goo diets. but here is what you need to know about their dietary requirements: When you have a Shiranian (Shih Tzu Pomeranian Mix) it would be safe to go for holistic dog food.

You will also need to assure that the food you are going to feed to your little guy contains chicken meat, lamb, salmon, turkey, and beef as the primary ingredients. These foods will fulfill your little buddy’s essential protein and caloric needs.

If you go with commercial dog foods, you need to make sure that the food contains high-quality ingredients. Remember, A Shih Tzu Pomeranian mix can also be vulnerable to dental problems and allergies.

Products that contain lots of grains can cause an allergic reaction and low-quality food can result in dental problems. To be in the safe zone, it would be best if you just feed them with high-quality food.

Apart from that, Fruits and vegetables are also occasionally acceptable. You can feed them a cup of dry food everyday day. Make sure to feed them with high-quality food that is specially formulated for small dogs.

Don’t Overfeed them with any food as this can also cause unwanted weight gain. According to recent surveys, most of the Pet dogs present in the United States are overweight. Overfeeding a dog is never a good idea.

It’s the worst idea as it will only increase the chances of diseases in your pomeranian Shih Tzu mix.

Foods that You should avoid:

Alcohol Avocado Cat Food
Candy Apple Seeds Chocolate
Coffee & Tea Corn On The Cod Cooked Bones
Hops Garlic Grapes & Raisins
Liver Human Vitamins Peppers
Peaches & Plum Pits Sugar Salt
Chocolate & Dairy Products Tobacco Yeast

You can also include some healthy supplements like Fish oil, glucosamine, and chondroitin when they are young as this will eliminate any possible hip and elbow dysplasia.

Most peoples are likely to ignore the use of supplements but I would suggest you take the power of supplements seriously. Don’t ignore it if you want your little guy to live a happy and full life (Life Longevity)

What a Shiranian Needs

What a Shiranian Needs

Well, it would be better to keep them busy most of the time. They require extra space where they can play and run. If you want them to happy, make sure to provide them some extra space.

Plus, they also need extra attention and care, as they like to feel ignored or to be left alone on their own. Shiranian doesn’t do well when they are left on their own.

Most of the time, it will only put them in depression or aggressive. If you need to leave them alone, a couple of hours is okay ( maximum 6 hours) Don’t leave them for than that as it will put them in severe stress. Remember – ” A happy dog is a healthy dog ”

Apart from that, they also need an owner who has some grooming experience and knows how to keep a dog. Their coats also require too much grooming and caring regularly. You will need to comb them every single day if you to keep their coat from getting tangled.

They are quite high energy dogs, so they also require morning/evening walk to keep their energy level low. If you want to keep them from being destructive at home, it would be better to exercise them daily.

Hence, last but not least, every hybrid is prone to health problems. So, it will be highly recommended to visit the Vet once a month for a health check-up.
